"Freethinkers are those who are willing to use their minds without prejudice and without fearing to understand things that clash with their own customs, privileges, or beliefs. This state of mind is not common, but it is essential for right thinking; where it is absent, discussion is apt to become worse than useless." -- Leo Tolstoy, "On Life and Essays on Religion" [cited in Seldes, "The Great Thoughts"]

Remember that the Church of Human Bodies is not a church so much as a vision of the possible: intelligent, human religion. Today, one of our goals is to identify and foster churches of human bodies, or congregations moving in that direction.

You can help.

First, by informing us of religious groups based on these ideas.

Second, by providing donations or other assistance that will help us gain the world's ear. If interested in helping in this or other ways, please email us.

We live in an era of great religious migration and change. The established religions are chained to theologies that increasingly are seen as not fitting the facts of reality. The progress of science, along with their own internal contradictions, have left them vulnerable.

Furthermore, because they move our final satsifaction and salvation to heaven -- to after life -- the dominant religions of our day are incapable of assigning sufficient value to earth and to the lives we live here. In the end, for them, the real show is elsewhere.

As a consequence, humanity has suffered and biodiversity deterioriated under the great Middle Eastern triumvirate: Judaism, Christianity, Islam. Indeed, the struggle for democracy and human rights has been a struggle against the dominant religious orthodoxies as much as against tyrants and oligarchs.

Any religion which puts off salvation and justice until another time and place -- or places them outside time and place altogether -- sanctions in absentia both injustice and destruction. No surprise, then, that our precious earth is overrun with both. For earth has never been precious to the triumvirate which dominates religious thought.

Yet the world over, people want religious beliefs that make sense, that don't stand in stark contradiction to science, that honor us as human beings, that provide a new and satisfying view of life.

It is something they are not getting.

This is a crucial moment in creating our future, and you can make a difference.
